In this report I will be writing about KillBill, this movie is an American martial arts film based in Japan. It is about a women who swears revenge on the Japanese yakuza, who tried to kill her and her unborn baby.
Kill bill was directed and written by Quentin Tarantino and it was made during the production of another of he's movies - pulp fiction.
KillBill vol. 1 became Tarantino's highest grossing grossing film, earning over $180 billion in the box office, Although the scenes are presented out of chronological order, the film was shot in sequence. the amine sequence was directed by Kazuto Nakazawa and produced by Production.IG.
The combined production lasted 155 days and had a budget of $55 million. The crew eschewed computer generated imagery in favour of traditional practical effects used in 1970s Chinese cinema, particularly by director Chang Cheh, including the use of fire extinguishers and condoms to create spurts and explosions of blood, However Thurman was injured in a car crash and suffered from concussion , she felt that before the accident occurred she felt like she contributed many skills to the film, however after the accident she felt like a broken tool.
Originally KillBill was produced to be a single film, but Harvey Winestein pressured him to split the film in two and make a sequence, this decision was announced in 2003.
As like Tarantino's previous films KillBill features an electric soundtrack - music ranges from country  to Japanese guitarists.

Tarantino is an auteur producer because he produces significantly different films, but he maintains common threads throughout all of his films.
Not only is Tarantino a director but he is also a producer, screenwriter and actor and has written eight films and directors. He began his career in the late 1980s by directing 'My Best Friends Birthday', he began his career as an independent film maker, however his popularity boosted in 1994 with the release of pulp fiction, whereas Tarantino's most well known movie was Kill Bill, this was also his most highest grossing film that he has ever released.

Genre
kill bill uses a unique combinations of genre, the main genre is western and gangster, this is demonstrated perfectly by the yakuza gangsters and the many fight scenes in the movie. Tarantino is known for his modern directing of movie and he applies his knowledge to Kill Bill by mixing the stories up and breaking the chronological order of the film - this is also known as discontinuos time structure, He does this to excite the audience, add suspense and keep their attention. On the other hand by Tarantino choosing this approach could have been a risk as some people might have found the film very confusing, especially because he used a lot of Anime.

Setting
Kill Bill was set in two different countries, to begin with the hospital where the comatose bride was abused was set in St Lukes medical centre, in Washington DC, this is where the bride also came out of her four year coma, Tarantino chose this location quite simply because when Thurman was to drive the Pussy wagon to the home of Vernita Greene, the drive would have been too short, therefore he had to choose a further location. In 2002 this hospital closed to become a genuine movie set for other films. The second Country the movie was set in was Japan, Tokyo. When Thurman first arrives in Japan she pays a visit to a traditional sushi parlour, the setting of this location was very dark and wood furniture, which shows a rustic feel about the location and also shows Chiba was a humble man, even though he was a blacksmith of such extravagant swords.

Colour
In the beginning we are shown the wedding scene in black and white is is unusual as a stereotypical wedding, would be happy, excited and perhaps nervous atmosphere, lots of bright, warm colours and people around with smiles on their faces. This is why the situation is very confusing for the audience - it happens rather rare, or does not happen at all, that the bride is cruelly beaten up during her own wedding, the whole thing does not meet the audience’s expectations regarding ‘a wedding’. However this confusing scene will add suspense and entice the audience on why this scene is in black and white ?

Action/Editing
Throughout the film Tarantino bleeps out Thurman's (The Bride) name. this would bemuse some audience members as to why he would want to keep Thurman's name a mystery, However I believe that Thurman did this because it could be Tarantino's way of breaking the 4th wall and including us in the element of mystery and disguise what Thurman (the Bride) has to undertake she needs to remain anonymous. In addition to this we as an audience never see vulnerability in Thurman until the very end when her name is revealed by Elle the driver. On the other hand, by Tarantino doing this it means that the audience could never really feel emotionally invested in Thurman throughout the movie and could only feel empathy for her at the end.

Audio
During the film, violent scenes are accompanied by numerous songs from a diverse soundtrack.
In this scene Thurman is in a hospital bed and the audience then hears whistling, but we don't see who the whistling is coming from as it emphasises the importance of the soundtrack in Kill Bill-  the whistle begins like a warning quite similar to the alarm at the wedding massacre. After the first whistle, the camera switches to a low angel shot behind Elle. It tracks behind her for a moment as it raises, and then switches to a low angel shot of Elle’s white high heels clinking on the white hospital floor. This places the viewer close to the floor and therefore the sound. As we don't see Elle is the perpetrator of the whistling at the beginning ,it makes this scene extremely mysterious and ghost - like, the audience will be perplexed by this and want to know more.

Lighting
In this scene, Thurman is demanding for the blacksmith to make her a samurai sword, before this the lighting was mellow and warm tones, although it was still dark when they where having casual dialog. When she mentions that she desires a sword, the lighting changes dramatically and the camera angle becomes eye level and a spotlight is on them to their conversation, this shows the importance of what she is asking from him and it shows that there is no physical thing that she could be asking from him at that moment.

Mise en scene
This is the fight scene, when 'the bride' fights the assassins. In this shot all of the assassins are wearing Black Suit symbolising hatred, revenge or sometimes death, while Beatrix is wearing a Yellow Suit and some say that colour Yellow is the colour of the mind and the intellect. Despite of the countless assassins that she has encountered, she remains strong and fearless because she uses her mind and intelligence.

CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY

Charlie and the chocolate factory is a movie that was directed by Time Burton and written by John August, this movie is based upon the 1964 novel 'Charlie and the chocolate factory' by Roald Dahl. Tim Burton immediately brought regular collaborators Depp and Danny Elfman aboard.

Genre
The genre of Charlie and the chocolate factory is a Fairytale, fantasy, children humour and fiction. It is based on 1964 children's novel by British author Roald Dahl. The story features the adventures of young Charlie Bucket inside the chocolate factory of eccentric chocolatier Willy Wonka. The film was a contrast between two different worlds. The other one appeared to be normal and close to reality. However, the other one was more of dreamy, and fantasy-like. Despite the differences, these two were merged and incorporated

Setting
The setting of Charlie and the chocolate factory could arguably be the most important part of the whole movie, for example; the inside of the chocolate factory. this needs to be the most the most significant part, as it needs to exceed everybody's expectations dramatically, as it will shock the audience and the setting cannot afford to be underwhelming as everyone has extraordinary expectations of the chocolate factory. Tim Burton also paid much attention to the book and had to carbon copy the images from the book and even add extra. I believe that Tim Burton did this very well as he used many colours and special effects to achieve this.

Colour
Colour was used creatively in the film. Outside the factory, there is not much colour but gray. The lighting outside the factory and the contrast made it looked a bit sinister and used to suggest the winter. on the other hand, inside the factory, it seemed that it was a burst of bright and vivid colours suggesting the dreamy and wonderland vibe of the factory. In addition, Tim Burton did not opt for traditional colours. He used a combination of basic and pastel colours that added to its impact visually. Apart from these, Tim Burton added visual illusions particularly to the set designs located inside the factory. There were scenes where the contrast was high and the lighting helped in making the scene dark. However, there were scenes wherein the lighting and contrast suggest a lively and happy set. Computer Generated Imaging and special effects were added to create some of the set design.

Action/Editing
The film made used of Computer Generated Imaging. The Oompa Loompas were all performed by one character; the film just used editing techniques so that the face of Deep Roy can be added to each Oompa Loompa.  It mostly utilized cutting in connecting scenes. Dialogue also overlapped with scenes particularly when there’s someone narrating. In transition, aside from cutting the film also used spiral transition (spiral shape) shown when Willy Wonka had a flashback.

Audio
Audio is also extremely important, as this can bring to life the whole movie and set an atmosphere for the audience, for example; the Willy Wonka song that catches on fire. this song is by Danny Elfman, which goes hand in hand with Tim Burton as a auteur director as he has used him in many other movies that Burton has directed.

Lighting
the lighting in Charlie and chocolate factory is very important as it shows the contrast between the two worlds of 'Charlie Bucket' and 'Willy Wonka' for example; the lighting is extremely dark when 'Charlie' is at home with his family, as it shows his poverties and despite need for some money to even just survive fo his whole family. However, the lighting in the chocolate factory is very bright to represent excitement- as it is every Childs dream and fantasy to visit a chocolate factory.

Mise en scene

In this scene, Willy Wonka introduces himself to his guests. This scene is significant as the lighting around is very dark and cold, however Willy Wonka's outfit is very colourful and extravagant, with his dark purple suit and top hat, this could show that Willy Wonka is no ordinary character and his unusual dress sense goes hand in hand with his unusual personality, which the audience are shown throughout the movie.
